Using Virtual Office.

How do I start it?

There is either a link on home.epsomcollege.org.uk just below where you found the link to this page.
When you click on the link, you will see the following security alert:

Click Yes to this.

This tells you that you are connecting via the Secure Sockets Layer, i.e. information being communicated is encrypted and, therefore, secure. Next you will see the log in screen:

Just use your user name, no need for a context such as .01. If your name is not unique at Epsom College, you will be offered a choice of names with contexts in a drop down list, from which you should choose your own. Once you have logged in successfully, you will see the following welcome screen:

A number of services are available. The e-guide helps you find information about other users. Though this is limited to just the name and perhaps house. There is a facility join virtual teams for collaborative working, but this is disabled. You can keep your own Internet bookmarks and have this accessible from any machine. There will be more features added such as email and printing, but for now, the most important is the Net Storage feature which gives access to your network file space. This is the third blue button from the left. After a short delay while Your file space is accessed, the following appears:

On the left is a list of folders to which you have access. Home is your own file space or N:drive. iFolder is not set up so ignore that. Choose which drive has the file you want, then click on it. Files and subfolders will then appear. Clicking on Home for the logged in user shows ……

Now select the file you want and then click on File in the menu to download it for work.

To upload a local file, navigate to the folder in your filespace where it is to go then choose upload from the file menu. A dialogue will appear to enable you to navigate the local machine to find the file to upload.

When done. Close the NetStorage window and click Logout in the top right hand corner of the Virtual Office Window.

Note that sessions on Virtual Office time out after a while. This is a security measure. Just log in again if you are timed out.

And that’s all there is to it.
